A couple fellow reviewers here responded directly to my post and why zero rating does not infringe upon net neutrality. The claim is that its actually good for the consumer.
Zero rating data only continues the practice of creating artificial scarcity in data. Many countries have banned the practice already. How is it ethical to have low data caps and then offer unlimited data through one app that Verizon owns? Yes having Go90 be zero rated will increase data usage, but it will come at the expense of other apps such as Netflix and Hulu. It removes choice because of an uneven playing field. Just because it gives something to the consumer that wasnt available before, doesnt make it right in any sense.
Whats worst, there is absolutely no incentive to increase data caps in the future! After all, their content doesnt use data. Its "free", but to us the consumer everything else will continue to be subjected to their low data caps.
I hope the FCC bans this practice, because zero rating and net neutrality cannot coexist. One infringes on the other completely, and as time goes on it will become more clear that Go90 is an attempt to undermine net neutrality. Giving their own app free data is a smack in the face to all customers who are forced to live with their low data caps, and seeing this as a gift from Verizon is foolish.
